Exploring Iceland begins before you even touch down. As the plane descends, visions of the landscape rush in through the window. Undulating terrain curves off far into the distance, sugar-capped mountains streak the skyline and the seemingly endless moss carpets the rugged ground.
From the moment you step onto the tarmac the air fills your lungs to its fullest capacity, filling every capillary and electrifying every cell the body. The power and presence of mother nature is clear. Having a population of approximately 330,000 with two thirds living in the northern most capital of the world it is as if mankind remains at a stand still unable to tame the land.
In the midst of winter, it is easy to learn that in you is an invincible summer as you search for the tallest waterfalls, most raging of volcanoes and the highest of mountains. Happiness is found in solidarity. With no-one in the spaces that existed, no-one to distract, watching the aurora dance, the snow smother the land and the rivers run becomes an overwhelming experience. It is nothing short of magic.
