Iceland

Exploring Iceland begins before you even touch down. As the plane descends, visions of the landscape rush in through the window. Undulating terrain curves off far into the distance, sugar-capped mountains streak the skyline and the seemingly endless moss carpets the rugged ground.

From the moment you step onto the tarmac the air fills your lungs to its fullest capacity, filling every capillary and electrifying every cell the body. The power and presence of mother nature is clear. Having a population of approximately 330,000 with two thirds living in the northern most capital of the world it is as if mankind remains at a stand still unable to tame the land.

In the midst of winter, it is easy to learn that in you is an invincible summer as you search for the tallest waterfalls, most raging of volcanoes and the highest of mountains. Happiness is found in solidarity. With no-one in the spaces that existed, no-one to distract, watching the aurora dance, the snow smother the land and the rivers run becomes an overwhelming experience. It is nothing short of magic.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility is a terminology that has arisen from the evolutionary change of dynamics that has occurred between businesses and society. It has come about as a result of globalization and changing societal expectations leading to what can be termed responsible consumption. People are starting to care about how their products are made and where their products are made.

However it is not simply a 'strategy' that can be implemented as a division of business in order to address current consumer trends. Its more than just charity, donations, value maximization and brand insurances to maximize profits. Its about integration of ethical practices and sustainability into the core aims of the business model in order to simply progress into the future. Its about recognizing  the power and influences that most businesses can have and using that to lead. Acknowledging that its not what a business does but how they go about it. Authentic leadership. In the face of masses in submission, at the mercy of the world at a tipping point it is something that is needed. We are challenged by inequality, volatile financial markets and political systems that are yet to adapt to our ever changing needs. But even more so worryingly we are facing the detrimental impacts of excessive consumption on the very environmental systems that sustain us. Corporate Social Responsibility is action and being a catalyst for action. Power is in the people. And that's why influence in my onion yields more power than money,

'To go it alone or to go with a partner? When you choose a partner you have to have compromises, you have to have sacrifices, but its the price you pay. Do I want to follow my every whim and desire as I make my way through time and space? Absolutely. But do I need someone when I'm doubting myself, when I'm insecure and my heart is failing me? Do I need someone when the heat gets hot who has my back? I do.'

Sadness

There is sadness. Then there is the type of sadness that knocks you of your feet. The type that engulfs you in a single moment. The type that makes your heart palpitate so hard it aches your chest, hallows out your stomach and hastens your breath. So much so every breath seems harder than the last and you forget what it was like to breath without thinking. And yes there are moments where you can hold your breath and clutch you're numbed hands so tight that the pain momentarily subsides but for the most part it returns. Maybe not at that very moment but eventually. Sometimes when you least suspect, just when you think you are happy. There are many names for whatever it is but It lingers only to disappear with true acknowledgement that the situation has happened and belief that the only way to move, is forward.

Florian

There are some people in this world where six years can go by and not a word will be spoken. But when you meet again it feels like not a single moment has passed. Florian is one of those people. Together we shared days of cooking cheese fondue, watching films and walking the city walls of the enchanting place that is Lucerne. Nights were spent seeing the coolest German bands, drinking in vineyards and pulling out the lamest actions, possibly considered dance moves, known to humanity. On the other side of the world in Switzerland I felt like I was home. All thanks to this wonderfully heartwarming human.
